A FEAST
FOR THE BODY AND MIND
Albemarle Street, Mayfair is the setting for a truly "unique
experience in cuisine and design". Chor Bizarre, the London branch
of New Delhi's most innovative and popular restaurant and was recently
adjudged as 'One of the 50 most romantic places in the world'
and 'amongst the Top 10 Restaurants in London for Fun and Atmosphere'
in October 1999 by The Independent, as well as 'The best North
Indian Restaurant in the UK' by The Cobra Good Curry Guide.
Capturing the spirit of the 'chor bazaar' or 'thieves market' within
its kaleidoscopic interiors, the restaurant is dedicated to serving
authentic Indian cuisine in a unique atmosphere. At Chor Bizarre you
will not find most of the cliches that tend to be associated with
Indian cuisine in Britain. Chor Bizarre offers dishes from all over
India with a large repertoire of vegetarian ones. It also features
Tak-A-Tak Tawa (street) cooking in addition to some other typical
'bazaar' fare. The chefs brought in from Chor Bizarre, New Delhi,
are amongst the handful to have access to the secrets of the 'Wazwan'-
the legendary Kashmiri community feast of 36 courses from which selections
are available.
Chor Bizarre has also matched every dish on the menu with three
wines in order of preference, painstakingly put together by the
internationally acclaimed ITV wine presenter Charles Metcalfe, which
was recently adjudged as the 'Wine List of the Year' by Best
in Britain Awards. The resplendent furnishings and décor
have been collected from various bazaars of India and have been
creatively arranged so as to inspire the diner to venture beyond
his immediate and uniquely decorated surrounds and explore the wealth
of objects d'art displayed in each corner of the restaurant. Some
of the items are for sale while reproductions can also be ordered
through the restaurant. You can therefore walk away with more than
just food and wine.

Lending further credence to Chor Bizarre' patriotic vision, is
the commitment to also showcase Indian arts, crafts, culture, entertainment
and talents of all sorts from the subcontinent. In the summer of
'99 we held 'The Chor Bizarre Theatre Festival'. Three award winning
plays, Tumhari Amrita, Dance Like a Man, Aik Thee Nani brought audiences
to their feet and ensured the festival was a resounding success.
Several other programmes hosted by Chor Bizarre in the past include
a Creative Writing Workshop by Shobha De- India's largest selling
author; launch party for celebrated Producer-Director Ismail Merchant's
film Cotton Mary; screening of the rushes from renowned film maker
Muzaffar Ali's soon to be released film 'Zooni'; a fashion show
of 'India inspired outfits' by New York based celebrity designer
Mary McFadden, a reading of excerpts from Rachel Dwyer's book '
All You Want is Money, All You Need is Love', and a preview of celebrated
director Feroz Khan's play 'Mahatma Vs Gandhi'.
