After being ranked among the 'Best 10 Restaurants
in London' by The Independent
in 1999, Chor Bizarre - India's Restaurant
has now been awarded the prestigious title of
'Best North Indian Restaurant in the UK' by the Cobra Good Curry
Guide'. Pat Chapman, founder of the
Curry Club presented the award to Chor Bizarre February 19,
2001.
This comes close at the heels of another prestigious laurel - the
"Best in Britain" award with the highest grading
of "Five Domes" and an exceptional
"Red D" for 'distinctive cuisine of the highest
standard' that were conferred upon Chor Bizarre by the National
Dome Grading Scheme.
Capturing the spirit of the 'Chor bazaar' or 'thieves market' within
its kaleidoscopic interiors, the restaurant is a veritable Aladdin's
cave of curious bric-a-brac and fascinating antiques. The resplendent
furnishings and decor have been collected from various bazaars of
India and have been creatively arranged so as to inspire the diner
to venture beyond his immediate and uniquely decorated surrounds
and explore the wealth of objects d'art displayed in each corner.
Nothing matches, yet everything gels!
Chor Bizarre has collected the best-known dishes from different
corners of the country, to make your gastronomic journey complete.
Our chefs have endeavoured to stay true to the actual origin of
each regional dish, honestly recreating flavours that one would
normally associate only with home cooked food. Chor Bizarre brings
you authentic Indian cuisine in a setting that is unabashedly Indian.
Chor Bizarre has also matched every dish on the menu with three
wines in order of preference, put together by the internationally
acclaimed ITV wine presenter Charles Metcalfe. Every dish on the
menu is matched with three wines that go along fabulously with it,
in order of preference.
Lending further credence to Chor Bizarre's patriotic vision is the
commitment to showcase Indian arts, crafts, culture, entertainment
and talents of all sorts from the sub-continent. In this direction
it has hosted several programmes in the past ranging from book readings,
comedy evenings, creative writing workshops to theatre/movie festivals
and
much more!
Another feather in the very colourful cap of a restaurant that has
become a virtual ambassador of the best that India has to offer.
